It's funny how ideas pop into your mind. I started messing about with yo-yos (which I think are also known as Suffolk puffs). Usually I think you're supposed to turn over the raw edges of the fabric before you gather it up into a yo-yo, but I thought adding a button to the centre would disguise the raw edges (and save fiddly hemming). Optimistically I was thinking of making a bedspread, but that would take literally hundreds of the blessed puffy things! Have I got the patience?
I'd draped the ones made so far in an armchair and - light bulb moment! - you could use them to customize a cushion. A plain cream or white cushion's ideal, either shop bought or a simple homemade one. Make up the yo-yos, and sew them together, then pin the arrangement to your cushion. Once in place, sew the buttons on. Your stitches both cover the raw edges and secure your yo-yos to the cushion. Hope that makes sense, and maybe give it a try??
